Mental health center opens in Prineville

An estimated 26 percent of Americans ages 18 and older suffer from a diagnosable mental disorder. To help better serve them, Crook County now has a new place for those affected to get help.

On Wednesday, Lutheran Community Services Northwest opened a permanent home for several services to help those in need.

“I am celebrating life, because I had no life last year,” Prineville resident Deannette Hoffman said.

She is one of the center’s success stories before it was integrated.

“I was crying at all the happy things, and I knew that that’s when I needed to do something,” Hoffman said.

She was referred by a doctor for help.

“I ended up being diagnosed with moderate depression, ongoing moderate depression and PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder),” Hoffman said.

Not only has she got her depression under control, but she was helped by Fred Hosillos to find a job.

“I believe in myself,” Hoffman said. “I have self-confidence. I’m obviously able to go out into public again and speak with people again.”

The Prineville woman is now celebrating four months at her job at Walmart in Redmond. With a new-found confidence, she is making her way up the ladder.
