BLM details Badlands Wilderness plans
The Bureau of Land Management Prineville District Office has completed an Environmental Assessment, Decision Record and Finding of No Significant Impact for the proposed Oregon Badlands Wilderness Management Plan and Environmental Assessment.

The Prineville District selected Alternative 2, and included elements analyzed in other action alternatives based on the purpose and need of the project, along with public input.
The decision provides management direction for trails, trailheads, special recreation permits, livestock grazing, cultural resources, wildfire, and allowable activities within the Oregon Badlands , located east of Bend.
The direction contained in the EA will be incorporated into the Oregon Badlands Wilderness Management Plan.
BLM policy requires that a wilderness plan be completed for each designated wilderness. The plan provides guidance for preserving and enhancing wilderness values, while offering opportunities for solitude and primitive recreation, and managing other land uses and activities.
Congress designated the Oregon Badlands Wilderness Area in 2009 as an area “where the earth and community of life are untrammeled by man, where man is himself a visitor who does not remain” (Wilderness Act, 1964).
The wilderness management plan will provide guidance for preserving and enhancing wilderness values while offering opportunities for solitude and primitive recreation.
Any person adversely affected by this decision may appeal to the U.S. Department of the Interior, Office of Hearings and Appeals, Interior Board of Land.
If you file an appeal, an original, signed hardcopy notice of appeal must be filed at the Prineville District Office (3050 N.E. Third Street, Prineville, OR 97754) within 30 days from receipt of this decision.
