Hwy. 97 traffic stop brings Calif. teen’s drug arrest
A California man was arrested late last week during an Oregon State Police traffic stop two miles south of Redmond when a trooper found several ounces of methamphetamine and cocaine hidden in the car, troopers said Wednesday.
“The OSP Drug Enforcement Section investigation has progressed to the point of allowing release of information,” the agency said in Wednesday’s news release.
Around 11 a.m. last Thursday, an OSP senior trooper stopped a 2005 Honda four-door displaying California license plates heading north on Highway 97 near milepost 127 for a traffic violation.
The driver was identified as Francisco Huizar Jr., 18, of Castro Valley, California.
An investigation during the traffic stop with the assistance of an OSP drug-detection canine, led the trooper to find about 30 ounces of methamphetamine and over five ounces of cocaine concealed inside the car, troopers said.
Huizar was lodged in the Deschutes County Jail in Bend on Friday night on meth and cocaine possession and delivery charges. A jail officer said he was released late Sunday after posting 10 percent of his $50,000 bail, pending a court appearance next Friday morning.
