Prineville PD on hunt for car window-smashing vandals
Prineville police turned to the public for tips Friday in hopes of solving a two-month rash of window-smashing car vandalism, totaling more than a dozen cases so far.
In most of the incidents, vehicle windows are being broken, probably by a BB or similar object, said police Capt. Michael Boyd.
Most of the targeted vehicles have been parked on the street, with cars damaged in numerous locations around town, Boyd said.
“Theft from the cars does not appear to be a motive,” Boyd said in a news release.
Three “very similar” incidents were reported on Friday, bringing the total to 13 separate cases dating back to mid-January, the captain said.
Boyd noted that it’s a violation of Prineville city ordinances to shoot an air rifle within the city limits. “Parents are cautioned about letting their children have access to air rifles or similar objects,” he added.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Prineville police at (541) 447-4168.
