Ridgeview High ‘bowls over’ hunger

KTVZ

More than 350 hand-made bowls were on sale at Ridgeview High Sunday, an effort to tackle hunger in Redmond.

The high school held its first “Empty Bowls,” event, similar to a yearly Bend event each fall, in this case to raise money for Jericho Road, a soup feed and auction to benefit the needy in Redmond.

Jericho Road is a nonprofit that helps needy individuals and families with transitional housing and food.

At the event, people were able to choose from a variety of bowls to purchase.

The bowls were all made by the high school’s ceramics class, while culinary students prepared the soup.

Jericho Road spokeswoman Mary Kimmel said it’s a true example of the community helping the community.

“To have students who did all the work, and organizing it, and to see community people turning out to support it — heartfelt,” Kimmel said.

School officials said they hoped the event would raise about $3,000.
