Dragged, recovered dog up for adoption
An injured dog found along a roadside in Jefferson County in January, apparently having been dragged by a vehicle, now has recovered from her injuries and is available for adoption at BrightSide Animal Center in Redmond, officials said Tuesday.
Nutmeg, a female pit bull mix, was found by Good Samaritans on Jan. 17, the same day that Chance, another pit bull dragged by a vehicle who was rehabilitated at BrightSide, was released for adoption. Chance was adopted a week later by BrightSide dog trainer Judy Anderson.
Nutmeg’s injuries were not as severe as those Chance sustained, the shelter said.
Shelter officials said police responded when BrightSide reported the injured dog, as is standard procedure. Jefferson County authorities said they received no reports of a missing dog, or witnesses who might have seen anything, officials said.
After initially being treated by BrightSide’s veterinarian Dr. Cheryl Byrd, Nutmeg has been in foster care at the home of one of BrightSide’s employees for two months.
Nutmeg,about 1 1/2 years old, is now “the picture of health,” the shelter said in Tuesday’s announcement, “She is very friendly to humans and loves interaction. She makes excellent eye contact and scored an A in trainability.”
Nutmeg has had mixed reactions to female dogs, the shelter advised, “so a meet-and-greet with other dogs in a would-be adopter’s family is very important.”
