Redmond fugitive gets 8-year sentence

A Redmond fugitive who threatened police and led officers on a chase over a year ago was sentenced Friday to more than eight years in prison on a variety of charges, from perjury and computer crime to ID theft, prosecutors said.

Deschutes County Circuit Judge Barbara Haslinger imposed the 100-month sentence on Michael Lee Hanson, 35, who was arrested in February 2013 after an on-and-off chase from southwest Redmond into the Terrebonne area, ending when his SUV crashed into an OSP pickup truck.

Hansen had pleaded guilty to unlawful use of a weapon, perjury, computer crime, two counts of felony attempt to elude and four counts of ID theft.

Prosecutors said the crimes occurred between August 2012 and February 2013, including fraudulently filed court documents. They also said Hanson’s criminal history played a role in the sentencing, as itincludes over 60 felony convictions.

Haslinger applauded police efforts and conduct, as Hanson – wanted for parole violation on an original kidnap charge, among others – refused to pull over for a traffic stop on SW Obsidian Avenue. Police said he said earlier he was armed and wouldn’t give up without a fight.
