Crook Co. SO graduates first Citizen’s Academy

Monday night was graduation night for 17 citizens who attended the very first Crook County Sheriff’s Office Citizen’s Academy.

The course began on January 27 and ran through April 7. Each of the graduates received a Certificate of Completion and a small gift for their dedication to learning more about their Sheriff’s Office.

During the course, the attendees learned about numerous areas within the Crook County Sheriff’s Office.

There were courses in criminal investigations, DUII, domestic violence, emergency management, sheriff patrol, marine patrol, K9 program, search and rescue, firearms safety, use of force, drug investigations, SWAT operations, and also included a tour of the 911 Center and the Crook County Jail facility.

Courses were taught by members of the Crook County Sheriff’s Office, and the Crook County DA’s Office, and included guest speakers from Oregon State Police, Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office and Central Oregon Police Chaplaincy.

Many comments from those who attended the Academy were that they learned many things about the operation of the Crook County Sheriff’s Office that they were not aware of and were happy they attended.

The Crook County Sheriff’s Office is already planning the next Citizen’s Academy for 2015. If you would like to attend the 2015 session, please stop by the Sheriff’s Office and pick up an application packet.
