A La Pine man faces animal neglect and other charges after two horses and a dog were seized from his property in a weekend raid, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies said.
Deputies served a search warrant around 2:30 p.m. Saturday at an unidentified address in the La Pine area, said Lt. Deron McMaster.
A case was opened last November at the same location regarding the care of three horses by Roy F. Milhous, 46, McMaster said.
Initially, the sheriff’s office took custody of one horse, with the consent of Milhous, due to malnourishment, the lieutenant said.
“That horse has been cared for by the sheriff’s office over the past several months and the horse has made great improvements,” McMaster said in a news release.
Deputies monitored the health of the man’s other two horses and obtained a search warrant to seize them “after a noticeable decline in the health of the two horses,” McMaster said.
A female Rottweiler also was seized because she was contained in a small enclosure and was in need of medical care, McMaster said.
Milhous was cited to appear in court on four counts of second-degree animal neglect and eight counts of having an unlicensed dog.
