The Pet Evacuation Team (P.E.T.) is assisting with the Two Bulls Fire.

Volunteers were stationed at the initial Red Cross shelter at Cascade Middle School on Bend’s Westside to assist any evacuees with companion animal care and were moved to the new shelter location, at High Desert Middle School on Southeast 27th Street later Saturday night.

To date, all evacuees have been able to make care arrangements for their smaller animals, the team said.

P.E.T. is also set up at the Deschutes County Fairgrounds, where they are providing intake and care for horses and other farm animals. Six horses and some chickens are currently being cared for there by P.E.T. volunteers.

P.E.T. provided teams of trained rescue volunteers in the evacuated area and have gone back in to check on animals that were believed to be left behind as those calls came in late Saturday. Those efforts will continue through this incident.

“There are no additional needs for horse or stock trailers at this time,” the organization said Sunday morning.

The Pet Evacuation Team is an all volunteer, 501 c 3, animal rescue team established in 2001. There are 125 volunteers and resource volunteers through P.E.T. that are trained in animal rescue. Donations to assist with P.E.T. efforts are tax deductible and may be sent to P.E.T. P.O.Box 922, Redmond, Oregon 97756 or may be securely made on the website at www.petevacuationteam.com
