Bend neighborhood hosts CCC cycling team, staff
Cyclists from all over the globe have flocked to Bend this week, but one entire team and their staff are all staying on the same street.
“We have eight riders, and 4 staff people staying with us,” Lee Lewishusk, also known as “House Mom,” told us Tuesday.
But wait, that’s not all.
“No, I have three dogs at the moment and a puppy,” said Lewishusk.
The riders are split up around the neighborhood at different houses that are all next door. And the team members are from all over the globe.
“I’m from Argentina,” said one rider, “I’m from Monterey, California,” said another.
But their skill is undeniable.
“I think it’s going to be a good race,” said their team manager, Jim Anderson.
And in order to do well, Lewishusk said adding with a laugh, “First of all, they eat a lot of food.”
But they don’t fit all the “male stereotypes.”
“Last night, the manager fixed diner, and then the guys cleaned up, which I thought was very cool,” Lewishusk said.
And after dinner, it’s off to bed, albeit with a few obstacles.
“In fact, they are staying at a house where they are running up and down a ladder to get back and forth, so they don’t have to run around the neighborhood,” Lewishusk said.
But the riders are just happy for a place to call home.
One rider told us, “Worst part is traveling, because it’s just takes a lot out of you and stuff.”
With a full belly, and a solid night’s sleep, all they want to do is ride.
“It’s always nice to be comfortable but at the end of the day, we are bike racers. that’s what we are here to do is to race hard,” one rider said.
As you can probably imagine, it’s been a pretty hectic couple of days with all the bikes, riders, and dogs, but lee tells us she wouldn’t have it any other way.
