Want to be a foster grandparent? Here’s how

KTVZ

The Central Oregon Foster Grandparent Program, administered by the Central Oregon Council on Aging, provides one-on-one tutoring and mentoring to at-risk school age children, while providing volunteer employment for low income persons age 55 and older who have the desire and aptitude to help young students succeed in school studies and life skills.

The Foster Grandparent Program is an integral part of COCOA’s intergenerational strategy to assist children in learning from and truly appreciating what elders provide to their growth and development and gives senior volunteers an opportunity to make a difference in their communities. All volunteers will receive a stipend and training, as well as other benefits.

The next training is scheduled for September 10, 17, 24, and October 1 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at the Redmond Senior Center. If you are age 55 years or older and have a sincere desire to make a difference to a child, call the Central Oregon Council on Aging at 541-678-5483 and ask for the Foster Grandparent Program Director.
