Fire restrictions lowered on Ochoco Natl. Forest

KTVZ

Beginning at midnight Monday, the Ochoco National Forest will drop the public use restrictions on campfires and firewood cutting that went into effect July 25.

The Industrial Fire Precaution Level will also lower to a “Level 2 – Partial Hootowl,” meaning certain industrial equipment may be used between 8 p.m. and 1 p.m.

These changes only affect the Ochoco National Forest.

Prohibitions on firewood cutting and campfires outside of designated campgrounds remain in effect for the Crooked River National Grassland, the Prineville BLM, and the Deschutes National Forest.

Recent wetter, cooler weather has lowered fire danger levels on the Ochoco National Forest, land managers said. But they continue to urge the public to exercise caution with power saws and campfires.
