Oregon postcards to urge registering to vote
This month, the Oregon Secretary of State’s Office will be mailing postcards to eligible Oregonians, reminding them of the opportunity to register to vote.
The postcards will be sent to Oregonians who are not currently registered, according to county records, but may be eligible to vote.
“Voting is a fundamental right, and I encourage all Oregonians to exercise their right to vote,” said Deschutes County Clerk Nancy Blankenship.
If you receive a postcard, please consider registering to vote. If you receive a postcard, and you are already registered to vote, please take a moment to confirm your voter registration information at oregonvotes.gov.
To vote in the November election, you must be registered no later than Tuesday, October 14.
If you receive a postcard, it means that records show you are eligible to vote in Oregon, but that you may not be registered.
Earlier this year, the Secretary of State’s office joined the Electronic Registration Information Center (ERIC) to reach out to all eligible voters who may not be registered to vote.
Because they are not registered to vote, these residents are unable to participate in Oregon’s election system. The ERIC is a project to improve voting across the country.
The next step in the process of increasing registration and voter participation focuses on the integrity of voting rolls, cross-checking with Department of Motor Vehicle records, the U.S. Postal Service, and the Social Security Death Index.
Oregon will also work with other participating states to ensure that voters are only registered in the state where they live.
