KTVZ

Central Oregon Law Enforcement agencies participated in a 13-day traffic enforcement blitz through regular and overtime enforcement Aug. 26-Sept. 7 focused on safety belt compliance, child seats/fitting station referrals, texting, speeding and other violations.

The enforcement is funded by overtime funds through the Oregon Department of Transportation.

The Bend Police Department dedicated three officers to overtime shifts resulting in 14 seat belt citations, four speeding citations and 21 other traffic warnings/citations.

The Crook County Sheriff’s Office performed three overtime shifts resulting in 16 seat belt warnings (one of which was a child passenger), two speeding and eight negligent driving citations.

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates 9,310 lives were saved by the proper use of child safety seats between 1975 and 2009.
