Cascade Youth-Family Center receives funding

KTVZ

Cascade Youth & Family Center is the recipient of $13,000 in funding from the Deschutes County Health Services Department, Early Learning Division for this year.

CYFC has provided services and support for homeless and runaway youth in Central Oregon since 1989. With the support of Deschutes County, CYFC will continue to provide emergency shelter and supportive services to some of the most vulnerable youth in the county.

Homeless youth are the fastest growing segment of the homeless population. Central Oregon has experienced a 64% increase in the number of homeless individuals since 2006-42% of the homeless in 2013 were under the age of 17 (914 children/youth).

The population to be served through this project includes homeless and formerly homeless, unemployed youth engaged in services through CYFC. These youth currently reside in shelter (short term or transitional living) or may be living on the streets.

The youth are 16-21 year of age and include both males and females. Services that are provided include meeting basic needs such as food and shelter, and helping youth to continue their education or find employment.

Megan Sergi, CYFC Program Manager, suggests, “Together, as a community, we are creating positive outcomes for the youth we serve -one degree, one certificate, one year of sobrietyand one job at a time.”
