Brooks Resources receives national arts honor

Wednesday night, at an awards gala in New York City’s Central Park, Bend real estate developer Brooks Resources Corporation received an award from Americans for the Arts: “The BCA 10: Best Businesses Partnering with the Arts in America for 2014.”

The award recognizes only 10 companies in the United States for their exceptional commitment to the arts through grants, local partnerships, volunteer programs, matching gifts, sponsorships and board membership. The ceremony, intentionally held on October 1, marked the first day of National Arts and Humanities Month.

At the evening’s event, 170 leaders from the arts and business worlds gathered to honor the BCA 10, including such notables as Donald Hall, Jr.,President and CEO of Hallmark Cards, Inc.,Jim Weddle, Managing Partner of Edward Jones, and many past BCA honorees.

Frederic C. Hamilton, chairman of The Hamilton Companies (Denver, CO) and chairman emeritus of the Denver Art Museum, received the 2014 BCA Leadership Award andDeere & Company(Moline, IL) was inducted into the BCA Hall of Fame. Frederic C. Hamilton andLanny and Sharon Martin were the presenting sponsors for the evening.

Brooks Resources was selected for the award due to its support of the arts in the Central Oregon community over the past four decades.

The company donates a minimum 3 percent of its pre-tax profits to Central Oregon charitable endeavors annually.

The Bend Foundation, a philanthropic organization established by Brooks-Scanlon, Inc. and shareholders of Brooks-Scanlon and Brooks Resources, helps support local programs such as Art in Public Places, BendFilm, High Desert Chamber Music, the High Desert Museum, Arts Central, among many other programs vital to the cultural heartbeat of the area. In addition, employees are encouraged to volunteer in the community and given paid time off each week to spend time doing charitable work.
