John Lawrence procession, services set for Friday
With the passing of Bend police Sergeant John Lawrence, a procession consisting of police, fire and immediate family member’s vehicles honoring his service to the community will leave the area of the Bend Police Department at 555 NE 15th St. at noon on Friday.
Here’s the rest of the details of Friday’s events, released Wednesday afternoon by Capt. Ken Stenkamp:
The procession will head west on Hwy 20/Greenwood Avenue to NW Newport Avenue and proceed to the Westside Church at 2015 NW Shevlin Park Road, where services will be held at 1 p.m.
During the procession, traffic will be temporarily disrupted, with intersections and traffic lanes blocked as the procession moves along the route.
Reader boards and personnel will be used to direct traffic during the procession and alternate routes are encouraged for vehicular traffic in the area between noon and 1 p.m. The public and the media are welcome to view the procession.
John Lawrence began his career in law enforcement with the Deschutes County Sherriff’s Office, where he worked for 4 years. He then worked for the Bend Police Department for 10 years, and promoted to Sgt. in January 2014. John’s professionalism and dedication will be missed by his co-workers and the Central Oregon community.
John’s family wishes to thank everyone for the love and support they have received from the community in the loss of a dedicated and loving husband, father and friend.
