Redmond man arrested in DUII crash, blackout
A Redmond man was arrested on DUII and other charges after his pickup crashed into a power pole southwest of Redmond late Wednesday afternoon, knocking out power to about three-dozen homes, authorities said.
Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched around 4:25 p.m. to the 7500 block of Southwest 77 th Street, west of Highway 97, said Sgt. William Bailey. A caller advised a vehicle had crashed into a power pole and that power was out to homes in the area.
Bailey said an investigation found that Bradley Pitts, 42, was driving his 2005 GMC Sierra pickup south on 77 th Street when he lost control and struck a Pacific Power pole. He was unhurt in the crash, the sergeant said.
Pitts was arrested and taken to the county jail in Bend, where he was lodged on charges of DUII, first-degree criminal mischief and reckless driving. His bail totaled $20,000.
The Redmond Fire Department assisted at the crash scene, Bailey said.
