Redmond man charged in Christmas DUII crash
A 21-year-old Redmond man faces DUII (drugs) and other charges after a Christmas night crash on Highway 97 south of Redmond in which his speeding car hit the rear of an SUV, left the road and flipped on its side, Oregon State Police reported Sunday.
The crash occurred around 5:40 p.m. Thursday at milepost 128, near SW 61 st Street, and sent four people in the other car to St. Charles Redmond with minor injuries, troopers said. While roads in the area were reported to be slick, speed and controlled substances were reported as the main factors in the crash.
Troopers said a silver 2004 Cadillac driven by Nicholas Matthew Lloyd of Redmond was heading south in the “slow lane” at a high rate of speed when it struck the rear bumper of a 2004 Ford SUV driven by Monique Francis, 32, of Bend.
The Cadillac left the road, crashed through a fence, struck a tree and came to rest on its passenger side.
Francis and three girls in her SUV, ages 9, 10 and 16, were taken to St. Charles Redmond for treatment, troopers said.
Lloyd, arrested at the scene, was taken to St. Charles Bend to be checked for injuries, then lodged at the Deschutes County Jail on charges of DUII (controlled substances), third-degree assault and reckless driving. He was released to a third party early Friday morning, a jail officer said.
Abbas Auto of Terrebonne and Mike’s Cascade Towing towed the two vehicles from the scene.
