Bend man hurt in crash on Brookswood Blvd.

A 91-year-old Bend man was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after his SUV left icy Brookswood Boulevard south of town and overturned Saturday night, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies said.

Deputies responded around 10:15 p.m. to the reported crash on Brookswood Boulevard near Buck Canyon Road, just south of Bend, said sheriff’s Sgt. Kevin Dizney. Dispatchers said the vehicle had rolled and one occupant was reported to be bleeding.

Arriving deputies found a 2002 Ford Explorer upright on the west shoulder of the road, which appeared to have rolled once, Dizney said.

The driver, Milton Emerson, was taken by Bend Fire medics to St. Charles Bend, the sergeant said. A nursing supervisor said Sunday he was no longer at the hospital.

Severe ice covered the entire road at the time of the crash, Dizney said, adding that neither speed nor intoxicants appeared to be factors in the accident.

Due to the icy conditions, Brookswood Boulevard was closed while emergency crews worked at the scene. Dizney said traffic was routed around the crash for about 40 minutes.
