‘Fences for Fido’ goal: Unchain 50 C.O. dogs

In honor of the one-year anniversary of Oregon’s historic anti-tethering law, Fences For Fido’s Central Oregon chapter is launching Unchain Central Oregon, with the goal of freeing 50 “fidos” in 2015.

Fences For Fido, an all-volunteer nonprofit, reaches out to families with dogs living outdoors on chains, offering a free fence, spay/neuter, and a new dog house.

“This concept has touched the heart of Oregonians as theysee first-hand the tangible difference a fence can make for both the dogs and their families,” the group said in a news release Tuesday.

“We think this goal is very achievable, considering the fact that in 2014, we unchained 56 dogs from Warm Springs to Prineville and down to La Pine,” said La Donna Sullivan, Fences For Fido’s Central Oregon Director.

“Our organization helped pass this law, and we want to do our best to help the people of Central Oregon comply and do right by the pets we know they love.”

The media and public are invited to participate in upcoming local events in conjunction with this campaign. On Friday, January 30 th from 5 to 7pm, FFF will kick off the “Free 50 Fidos in 2015” effort with a celebration and volunteer round-up at Birdie’s Cafe (1444 NW College Way, Suite 1 in Bend).

Volunteers and those interested in joining the Fences For Fido effort are encouraged to attend this evening of fun with fellow animal-loving friends. Refreshments will be served.

Fences For Fido events for 2015 begin with fence builds scheduled for January 18 th and 25 th .

Fences For Fido’s Central Oregon Chapter is also asking the public to support their goal to Free 50 Fidos in 2015 with monetary in in-kind donations of supplies and equipment at http://www.fencesforfido.org/
