Volunteers in Medicine Clinic awarded three grants

KTVZ

Volunteers in Medicine Clinic of the Cascades (VIM) announces the recent award of three grants totaling $21,303.

The gifts will meet the needs of patients who require primary nd/or specialty care, prescription medications, mental health care, or basic dental care, dependent upon their immediate medical needs.

The Chambers Foundation awarded VIM $10,143, the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation presented a grant for $9,660, and the Washington Federal Foundation awarded VIM $1,500.

“We are very thankful for the support of these three amazing organizations,” said Kat Mastrangelo, Executive Director of VIM. “With their help, we are able to directly fund patient care for 44 patients in need of medical services.”

VIM provides healthcare services on a donation basis to working adults who live in the tri-county area and have no access to medical insurance or a means to pay for care.

All of this is made possible through the big-hearted efforts of hundreds of generous donors, more than 500 clinic volunteers, and 400+ medical providers with offices located throughout Central Oregon. Their dedication has helped keep thousands of low-income adults healthy, working, and able to care for their families simply because they have access medical care when they need it.

VIM’s patients are age 18 – 64, with the majority having one or more chronic condition; such as diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, or mental health diagnoses. All of these conditions are manageable with medical oversight and access to care.

“With the help of our dedicated volunteers and supportive donors, VIM will continue to serve the medically uninsured for as long as there is a need,” stated Mastrangelo.
