Portland martial arts teacher in Bend jail on abuse charges
A Portland martial arts teacher has been arrested on Deschutes County charges of sexually abusing a boy under the age of 12, prosecutors confirmed Wednesday.
Eben Eli Keiji Kaneshiro, 35, was arrested by sheriff’s deputies and booked into the county jail in Bend Sunday afternoon, jail records show.
He is being held on $500,000 bail, facing three counts each of first-degree sex abuse and first-degree sodomy.
Kaneshiro was arraigned on the initial charges Monday and is due back in court on April 27.
District Attorney John Hummel told NewsChannel 21 the case is being presented to a grand jury this week.
The initial charges, called a district attorney’s information, show Kaneshiro is accused of abusing the boy in Deschutes County “on or about” last Sunday. Hummel said the incident happened in the Sisters area.
Kaneshiro owns New Breed Jiu-Jitsu Academy in southeast Portland, according to Portland police. Portland detectives said Wednesday they are concerned there may be more victims and asked anyone with information to contact Detective Darrell Miller at 503-823-0842 or darrell.miller@portlandoregon.gov.
