Time to think about C.O. summer camps

When the final bell rings, and school shuts for the summer, parents have to figure out what to do with their kids.

“It’s really difficult to find all day care for your kid all week when you’re a working parent,” parent Liana Ottaviano said Thursday.

For some programs, you have to start planning now — or even sooner.

“Some of the camps offer really deep discounts — if you reserve back in December,” Ottaviano said.

Many camps are filling up quickly. Some Bend Parks and Recreation District classes already have waiting lists.

“Our day camp elementary-age programs fill up quicker, but our specialty programs still have space,” said Sue Boettner of Bend Parks and Rec.

If you have not looked into programs yet, fear not. There are still plenty of openings.

“Wait lists do change. They sign up for everything because they get panicked == and then realize they’re going on vacation, or grandma’s coming to town,” Boettner said.

It’s not just Bend Parks and Rec. The High Desert Museum, Tumalo Creek Kayak, Morning Start Christian School, Tumbleweed Press, the Boys and Girls Club and many more offer programs.
