Wyden hails scrubbing of Comcast-TWC merger
Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) issued the following statement Friday after the announcement that Comcast would not proceed with its takeover of Time Warner Cable, a merger he strongly opposed.
“For the second time this year, America’s consumers stood up toBig Cable and won, refusing to make their monopoly any bigger,” Wyden said. “The decision will lead to more choices, better services andlowerprices – a win for consumers and small businesses.”
Earlier this week, Wyden, along withSens. Al Franken (D-Minn.), Bernard Sanders (I-Vt.), Edward Markey (D-Mass.), Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) sent aletterto the Federal Communications Commission and the Department of Justice asking them to “take a stand for U.S. consumers and businesses and reject Comcast’s proposed acquisition of TWC.”
