Fire destroys vacant home in La Pine

KTVZ

A fire tore through a recently vacated manufactured home in La Pine late Tuesday night, downing a power line and spreading for a time to adjacent trees before firefighters stopped it, officials said.

The fire was reported around 10:25 at 52530 Railroad Street and the first arriving Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies found the structure fully involved, said Sgt. Troy Gotchy.

La Pine Rural Fire District crews arrived and quickly stopped forward progress of the fire.

The manufactured home sent up tall flames on the east side of Railroad Street, west of Highway 97 and the BNSF Railway tracks and across the highway from the La Pine Mini-Mart.

Gotchy said the house and contents were a total loss, and the cause of the fire was unknown. The investigation into the fire’s cause will continue Wednesday morning, he said.

Unconfirmed police scanner reports indicated the home’s occupants had moved out only a day earlier.

ODOT and Midstate Electric Cooperative crews also were called to the scene.

A neighbor, Gregory Tapfer, who shot video of the burning home across the street said shortly after 11 p.m. crews had the fire out.

We’ll have more details as they become available.
