Grant to help expand HSCO’s cat area

KTVZ

The Humane Society of Central Oregon has been awarded a $25,000 grant from the Petco Foundation to support its expansion of the shelter’s cat area to improve the quality of housing, care and adoptability.

The Humane Society of Central Oregon is a nonprofit organization that cares for nearly 3,000 abandoned, stray, neglected, surrendered and abused animals annually.

The Petco Foundation investment will help to enhance the cat area of the Bend shelter, thereby improving the health and adoptability of the felines.

The Humane Society of Central Oregon’s staff veterinarian, Dr Crystal Bloodworth, noted that some refer to “cats as ‘connoisseurs of comfort.’ With our new cat housing and cat rooms, our cats will be able to stretch to full length, sleep well away from their litter boxes and show their full, wonderful personalities so they can get a home quickly.”

“The Humane Society of Central Oregon is very excited to receive this grant from the Petco Foundation, and is appreciative of the partnership we have with our local store. The Association of Shelter Veterinary Guidelines calls for larger cat housing units than HSCO previously had. These larger units contribute to healthier and happier cats, which in turn translates to quicker adoptions into loving homes.” said Sabrina Slusser, executive director.

The funds will be used specifically for the expansion and enhancement of our cattery, which is currently under construction. If you would like to help improve the lives of the cats while they are at the Humane Society of Central Oregon, call John Houchens at 541-382-3537. Sponsorship and naming opportunities of cat towers and condos are available.
