Downtown Bend’s Arnold tapped for Redmond city post

A familiar face and name in downtown Bend business circles is pulling up stakes and moving north – but not too far, as Chuck Arnold lands in Redmond in a new, public-sector role.

“With more than 25 years of experience in economic development, business development and downtown revitalization, including nine years as the executive director of the Downtown Bend Business Association, Chuck Arnold will be joining the City of Redmond team as the Economic Development / Urban Renewal Project Program Coordinator,” the city announced late Tuesday.

In the announcement, Arnold said, “The city of Redmond has done an incredible job as a community with their vision for urban renewal. I am honored to join in the efforts.”

Community Development Director Heather Richards said, “”We are thrilled to have Chuck join our team. He is going to be able to take our downtown urban renewal program to the next level of business vitality and private development.”

“Chuck is well-known and respected throughout the state of Oregon and the nation in downtown revitalization,” she added. “His success in Bend is demonstrable, and he has past experience with urban renewal in Los Angeles as well as private business experience.

“This position needs to understand the private sector and the public sector, and Chuck clearly has experience in both worlds.,” Richards said/

City Manager Keith Witcosky said, “Attracting and keeping top talent is an indicator of leadership. With this addition, Heather Richards’ attributes continues to build among the best community development teams in Oregon, including Deborah McMahon, who leads our Planning Division, and Gary Lampella, who leads our Building Division.”

Projects that Arnold will lead for the city of Redmond over the next several years include the implementation of the Downtown Redmond Urban Renewal Plan, implementation of a Business Development program, the expansion of Centennial Park, the development of a Family Entertainment Center, City Center Housing, the Redmond Hotel revitalization and several other private – public development projects.
