DCSO reports DUII traffic enforcement results

The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office participated in a statewide traffic safety campaign increasing traffic patrols during the 4 th of July weekend to focus on DUII enforcement.

The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office along with the Oregon Department of Transportation encourages all drivers and passengers to make a conscious effort to use their seat belt at all times while traveling in a motor vehicle regardless of the distance traveled.

Furthermore, we encourage all drivers to drink responsibly. If drivers intend to drink, please plan ahead and use a designated driver or public transportation such as a taxi or the local bus system.

According to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, during the July 4th holiday period over the last five years (from 2009 to 2013), 750 people lost their lives in crashes involving drivers with a BAC (blood alcohol content) of .08 or more. These fatalities account for 39 percent percent of all motor vehicle traffic fatalities over this same five-year period.

During the July 3-4 campaign, the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office issued the following citations / warnings / arrests, in addition to those made during routine patrols:

2 DUII arrests

1 Reckless Driving Citation

3 DWS (Driving while Suspended)

1 No operator’s license

3 No insurance

4 Speeding
