KTVZ

Oregon State Police said Wednesday they have identified an Idaho man killed when his motorcycle struck a guardrail on Highway 26 east of Government Camp.

Wilbur Fawcett, 63, of McCall, Idaho, was heading east around 5 p.m. on Monday when his 2009 Yamaha motorcycle struck the guardrail and he was thrown from the motorcycle, coming to rest on the roadway. The motorcycle stopped about 500 feet from the collision, said OSP Lt. Pat Short.

Fawcett was declared dead at the scene by emergency personnel, Fugate said. Highway 26 was partially closed for several hours while an investigation was underway.

While the investigation is continuing, Short said excessive speed appears to be a contributing factor in the crash.

OSP was assisted at the scene by ODOT and the Welches Fire Department.
