Deschutes deputies seek owners of 3 wandering calves

Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies are looking for the owner of three calves found by a homeowner on her property east of Bend on Saturday evening.

Deputies responded around 7:30 p.m. to the area of Highway 20 East and Gosney Road, where a homeowner found three calves on her property that did not belong to her or her neighbor, Sgt. Dan Bilyeu said Sunday.

Deputies checked the immediate area and contacted the brand inspector, but the owner could not be identified, Bilyeu said.

The calves were found “dangerously close” to the highway and Gosney Road, “potentially creating a significant hazard (to) anyone driving in the area,” the sergeant said in a news release.

And so, with the property owner’s assistance, sheriff’s personnel loaded the calves into a stock trailer for transport to the sheriff’s Livestock Rescue Ranch, pending identification and contact with the owner.

The three calves are about 300 to 400 pounds each, Bilyeu said, and appear to be in good health.
