Corner Creek Fire closure area being reduced
Beginning Sunday morning, the closure area for the Corner Creek fire on the eastern end of the Ochoco National Forest will be reduced, allowing public access again to Black Canyon Wilderness and several other popular roads and recreation sites.
The new closure area is east of Forest Service Road 5840, south of Black Canyon Wilderness, and north of the 5840 / 5850 junction. The east end of the closure is the national forest boundary.
Under this order, Forest Service Road 5840 is open to public use and so is Frazier Campground. South Prong Trailhead and Mud Springs Horse Camp remain closed to public use.
Black Canyon Wilderness will reopen to public use, along with all its access points other than South Prong Trailhead.
South Fork Road / County Road 42, south of Dayville, is already open to public use.
The new closure order restricts public access from the wildfire area and immediate vicinity in order to provide for public safety. Hazard trees exist along some roads and the fire area continues to produce interior heat and smoldering.
The Corner Creek fire started by lightning on June 29 about 11 miles south of Dayville, and grew to nearly 30,000 acres before it was contained. The fire will continue to be monitored and patrolled through the fall by local fire managers.
