Police say Bend man broke bank windows downtown

KTVZ

Police arrested a Bend man on theft and other charges early Friday morning in downtown Bend after they say they saw him smash a bank window with a chair.

Francis Roman Olivas was charged with theft and criminal mischief. Police say he stole a chair from Jool downtown and smashed it through at least two Wells Fargo Bank windows.

He was booked into the Deschutes County Jail and released to a responsible party on Friday.

Deschutes County District Attorney John Hummel said Olivas called police earlier in the night, complaining that he thought police stole his car. In reality, Hummel says, his car was towed because he parked in a no-parking zone.

When police found him, they say he was extremely intoxicated. Now, Olivas is excluded from downtown Bend as part of the recently expanded exclusion zone rules.

His next court appearance is August 26.
