Sisters is home to world’s ‘oldest living cat’

The title of “world’s oldest living cat” has been bequeathed by the Guinness Book of World Records onto 26-year-old Corduroy, who lives in Sisters, officials said Thursday.

Corduroy was born on Aug. 1, 1989, and lives with his owner, Ashley Reed Okura, in Sisters. The Reed family has owned Corduroy since he was a kitten and Ashley was only 7 years old, they said.

It’s “an impressive age considering domesticated cats have an average lifespan of 15 years,” the Book of World Records said in its weekly spotlight.

Corduroy actually held the oldest living cat title for a while back in 2014, until the owners of another cat, Tiffany Two, submitted a claim for the title. But Tiffany Two recently passed away, at over 27 years of age.

On learning about her beloved pet’s achievement, Ashley said, “We are thrilled! I bought Corduroy a mouse to celebrate … it is wonderful to share him with the world.”

Nevertheless, Corduroy is still a few years off the oldest cat ever, Crme Puff, who was born in 1967 and lived until 2005 – an incredible 38 years and 3 days (more than double the average life expectancy of the species).
