Low water brings Prineville Reservoir boat ramp closure

KTVZ

Beginning Friday , the last developed boat ramp on Prineville Reservoir will be closed for the year to trailered boat launching due to low water levels, officials said Tuesday.

The Oregon Parks Department said the ramp is unsafe to launch boats because the water level has receded to the end of the ramp.

The low water level on the reservoir prompted early closure of two other developed boat ramps at mid-summer this year.

Officials noted that “the reservoir has plenty of water for other recreational watercraft such as kayaks, canoes, paddle boards and small portable motorized boats.”

“These can still be launched manually from any accessible, walk-in beach. This is a good option for those looking to get out and enjoy the reservoir throughout the rest of the summer,” the announcement said.

The main campground and day use area will remain open year round, while the Jasper Point campground will close Sept. 30.

For more information, call the park office between 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at 541-447-4363 .
