Bend DAR chapter hosts high school essay contest

The Bend Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is sponsoringits annualChristopher ColumbusEssay Contest for high school students in Bend, Redmond and Sisters.
This year’s topic pertains to a comparison between Charles Lindbergh’s voyage and that of Christopher Columbus.
Local winners will also compete at the state, and possibly the nationallevel. A great achievement to list on a college application! Essays can be submitted between now and December 15 . For more specific information, contact mmegentry@gmail.com for an information sheet.
The Bend Chapter of DAR also encourages all schools, churches, community organizations, and families to participate in “Bells Across America” on Thursday, September 17 .
This event celebrates the 228th anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution. Americans across the country will be ringing bells at 1 pm (Pacific) on September 17 so the bells of freedom will be heard simultaneously from coast to coast.
