Fire doused S. of Redmond in remains of fire-hit home

KTVZ

Crews called to a fire south of Redmond Monday afternoon found the remains of a home that burned in December 2013 on fire again and flames spreading to nearby grass and brush, officials said.

Redmond Fire & Rescue crews were called out shortly after 2 p.m. on a report of a fire in the area and found the remnants of a burned home at 8162 SW 61 st Street on fire, spreading to about 100 square feet of nearby grass and brush, said Fire Marshal Traci Cooper.

Cooper said firefighters had responded to the same address on two prior reports of illegal burning.

The fire was extinguished, she said, and a referral will be made to the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality.

The fire marshal reminded the public that outdoor burning is closed.

Nearly a dozen personnel responded to the scene, while the Bend Fire Department provided mutual aid for ambulance coverage.

The two-story home burned in a fire days before Christmas 2013, causing no injuries but displacing a family with two children, assisted by the Red Cross.
