Sidewalk improvements due at Third St., Irving Ave.

KTVZ

The city of Bend is about to begin a pedestrian improvement project at the intersection of NE Third Street and Irving Avenue that will briefly affect pedestrian traffic.

The city will install curb ramps that are compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Public Rights Of Way Guidelines. This project is also in line with the city’s ongoing effort to help ensure that City-owned facilities, in this case the sidewalks, are accessible, and that all citizens have access to goods, services, activities and programs.

Most of this work will be accomplished with minor inconveniences to the general public. Vehicle access to businesses will remain open throughout the construction. Sidewalk sections will be closed during construction. Pedestrians will be detoured.

Construction will occur in two phases and will begin each day at 5 a.m. This early start allows the work to proceed before traffic volumes are increased to a more challenging level.

Phase 1 Phase 2

Location: NW and SW corners NE and SE corners

Dates: Sept. 28 to Oct. 2 Oct. 5 to Oct. 9
