Redmond man killed in SUV rollover crash
A 45-year-old Redmond man suffered fatal injuries Friday evening when his SUV overturned in a dirt and gravel area by a southwest Redmond apartment complex, police said.
The driver, identified as Steven Roth, apparently was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from and pinned beneath the vehicle, they said.
Redmond police and fire medics responded around 5:45 p.m. to the reported single-vehicle rollover crash on the east side of the Chaparral Apartments at 244 Southwest Rimrock Way, said Lt. Keith Knight.
Officers arrived to to find Roth pinned under the SUV, which landed on its side, Knight said.
With help from community members and more officers, the SUV was lifted high enough to remove the driver, and Redmond Fire and Rescue personnel arrived and began life-saving efforts.
Life Flight was activated and landed at the Redmond High School parking lot. Knight said. But before being placed in the helicopter, life-saving measures ended and the driver was pronounced dead on the scene.
The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office responded with an accident scene investigator to assist in the investigation.
Knight said it appears Roth was driving without a seat belt at the time of the crash. Knight said a passenger was in the SUV and was reported to have been wearing a seat belt and only had minor injuries.
The cause of the crash was under investigation, and any witnesses were asked to contact the police department at 777 SW Deschutes Avenue or call them at 541-693-6911, reference case 15-265428.
“The Redmond Police Department would like to remind the community that seat belt use is important and saves persons from serious injury or worse,” the lieutenant said in a news release.
