Students move into new COCC residence hall

Thursday was a busy day for many new and returning Central Oregon Community College students as they hundreds were the first class to move into the school’s new residence hall.

The $21 million project was completed earlier this year and is one of the first residence halls to be located on campus.

More than 225 students will be living in the dorm, and the residence hall can hold up to 300 students.

About 70 percent of the students moving in live around the state, and about 20 percent are calling Central Oregon for the first time.

Wes Jarvis, who recently graduated from high school, has lived in Bend most of his life.

Jarvis said it’s about getting the college experience and meeting new people.

“It’ll be different to see all these different people, meet a bunch of different new people,” he said.

Jarvis said the positive thing of living close to home is that he won’t be traveling too far for a good holiday meal.

“Who doesn’t like a good home-cooked turkey?” he said.

The first day of clases for most COCC students is next Monday.
