Fall FireFree yard debris half-price disposal dates set

From Monday, November 2 nd through Saturday November 14 th (closed Sunday November 8 th ) local residents are encouraged to define their defensible space by taking advantage of the half price yard debris days. Residents can recycle their yard debris at Deschutes Recycling for HALF PRICE – only $2.00 per cubic yard.

FireFree encourages residents to complete their fall clean up and maintenance of defensible space by bringing branches, leaves, shrubs and pine needles to Deschutes Recycling during this event.

Residents can take advantage of this event as an alternative to fall burning and recycle the combustible vegetation inside the 30-100 feet of defensible space around their homes.

“Burning yard debris is not allowed inside the city limits of Bend, so FireFree provides this option for Bend residents to recycle their debris inexpensively and legally,” says Alison Green, FireFree Coordinator. “With the devastating fire season the Pacific Northwest had this summer, the fall event is a great opportunity for residents to get a jump start on preparing their property for next fire season,” Green adds.

“We hope residents will use the fall half-price FireFree event to clean up their fall leaves, pine needles, and yard debris to provide a safe defensible space around their homes,” says Brad Bailey, President of Deschutes Recycling. “Taking these steps early is key to our community being prepared for next summer’s fire season,” Bailey adds.

Jefferson County is again hosting a fall FireFree event for local residents at the Box Canyon Transfer Station. After the great participation in last year’s first annual fall event, Jefferson County will be expanding their fall event to a two weekend event. This event will be accepting leaves, grass clippings and pine needles as well as the normal woody plant products. Residents can drop off yard debris for FREE at Box Canyon Transfer Station on October 24 th -25 th & October 31 st -Nov 1 st , 2015.
