Two Bend teens accused of thefts from parked cars

A citizen’s report in northeast Bend Sunday morning led to the arrest of two 15-year-old boys accused of entering at least two unlocked cars, looking for items ranging from clothing to marijuana, police said.

Shortly before 9:30 a.m., a concerned citizen called police to report observing two juveniles trying to open parked cars in the parking lot of apartment complexes, said Sgt. Eric Hagan.

Hagan said the citizen “gave a very good description” of the two suspects.

An officer in an unmarked car responded to the area and observed the two teens illegally entering cars, quickly taking them into custody. Hagan said the apartment complexes were on Northeast Elk Court, Lotus Drive and Purcell Boulevard.

The boys are accused of walking the area and checking for unlocked cars with items in plain view, including clothing, backpacks, marijuana and marijuana paraphernalia, Hagan said.

Police said the responding officer saw the teens take a backpack and the other items, which were recovered and returned.

The two teens were charged with unlawful entry into motor vehicles and second-degree theft, referred to the Deschutes County Juvenile Department, then released to their parents, Hagan said.
