Acting on several neighborhood complaints of possible drug activity at a northwest Prineville home, police conducted an investigation that led to a raid Wednesday in which three Prineville residents were arrested – two on outstanding warrants, officers said. Two young children at the home prompted involvement of state child protection officials.

Prineville police and Crook County sheriff’s deputies served a search warrant at 12:41 p.m. at 635 Northwest Second Street, said Sgt. Tom Kurtz. The Central Oregon Drug Enforcement Team and sheriff’s office assisted in the investigation, he added.

Herman Melvin Beitz III, 40, was arrested on methamphetamine possession charges, and as a result of a second investigation, he also was charged with four-degree domestic assault and strangulation, Kurtz said. He was held Wednesday night at the county jail on $50,000 bail, records showed.

Beitz’ son, Kylian Beitz, 20, was at the home at the time of the raid, Kurtz said. He was arrested on several confirmed warrants out of Crook and Deschutes counties, and a new charge of meth possession, and held without bail.

Chardae Marie Baird, 25, also was at the home when the warrant was served. She was arrested on a confirmed Crook County warrant and also held without bail.

Several other people were at the home at the time of the raid, including two young children. Oregon Child Protective Services was contacted and came to the home to assist, Kurtz said, adding that more charges are pending review by the district attorney’s office.
