Boothroyd picked for Redmond council vacancy
The city of Redmond has been looking for a new council member after Councilor Heather Carlin resigned last month due to health issues. Mayor George Endicott recommended the councilors appoint a Central Oregon native who brings a wealth of financial and management experience to the table.
“You know, Angela’s perfect. She’s been in Redmond for a long time, she’s just a true Redmondite,” Endicott said to describe Angela Boothroyd, the woman he viewed as the best fit for the position.
Boothroyd, a businesswoman and long-time Redmond resident, has been eyeing the position for some time now.
“The first time I considered it was, like, in 1998, but I was a single mom at the time and the time requirement I didn’t feel like I could do the job justice,” Boothroyd said.
Boothroyd’s civic experience includes a history of public service with the Redmond Development Commission, the Redmond Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and the Redmond Executive Association. She was named Redmond Citizen of the Year in 2006.
Boothroyd, owner of a local restaurant, said the timing is now right for her to join council.
Although the mayor recommended her to council, the decision is ultimately determined by a majority council vote.
It was an easy decision, as councilors unanimously voted her into office. Boothroyd was immediately sworn in and took her seat with the other council members.
She will serve a term that runs through Dec. 31.
