Commute Options, Mosaic Medical provide bike helmets for kids
Commute Options said Monday it is now partnering with Mosaic Medical to provide helmets for kids in need.
As part of their well-child checkups at their school based clinics, Mosaic Medical asks all pediatric patients if they wear helmets while riding a bike, skateboarding, roller skating or using a scooter. If the patient does not wear a helmet because they don’t have one, Mosaic Medical can give, at no cost, a helmet to that patient.
Eighty helmets will be distributed at five of Mosaic Medical’s locations: the East Bend Clinic for pediatric providers, Ensworth Community School Based Health Center, Bend High School-Based Health Center, Lynch School-Based Health Center in Redmond, and Crook Kids Clinic in Prineville.
Commute Options staff will train Mosaic Medical health care providers on how to properly fit helmets so they are ready for use.
The helmets were a joint purchase, at a reduced cost, between Commute Options and Mosaic Medical. Commute Options raised funds from their 10 Barrel Brewing Charity Night last October. The goal of the fundraiser was to buy bike helmets for kids, so it was a perfect fit for all organizations.
Oregon law requires that all youth under the age of 16 must wear a helmet when riding a bike, skateboard, scooter or roller skates. ?
Kim Curley, Community Outreach Director for Commute Options said, “Getting properly fitted helmets on kids heads is a priority of Commute Options. ?Partnering with Mosaic Medical, who has clinics throughout Central Oregon, makes great sense. Our thanks go out to them and to 10 Barrel for helping us reach our goal!”
Dr. Darin Vaughan, Mosaic Medical Pediatric Medical Director stated, “We all know that bike helmets save lives, and at Mosaic Medical we are committed to supplying bike helmets to our pediatric patients who may not have the necessary resources to purchase a helmet. It is because of organizations like Commute Options that we are able to give helmets to our patients who need them.”
