Hoodoo Ski Area having one stellar season
Coming off a very difficult winter last year, Hoodoo Ski Area near Santiam Pass is having its best season in years — and the snow shows no sign of slowing as spring officially nears.
The latest storm dumped 14 inches of new powder by Monday, making for a 92-inch base.
And with more precipitation falling Monday, officials expect a 100-inch base by Tuesday afternoon.
Taylor Anderson is a snowboard instructor. All classes were canceled so he was enjoying the mountain himself.
“The stoke is high and the vibes are great. Everybody is really excited old man winter came back. Miracle March pulled through. It’s alltime. It’s absolutely fantastic,”
Anderson said.
Marketing director Leif Williams says so far, these levels have been the best in years.
“It’s night and day. I mean last year, I kind of gave the comparison of looking at that Christmas present for two years or a year and finally being able to open it,” Williams
said.
Last season the mountain was open for 10 days, and the year before that, 38.
Williams said it’s a strong possibility they will get up to 100 inches by Tuesday afternoon. And he said anytime a mountain has a base of 100, they consider extending their
spring skiing season longer.
University of Oregon student Sarah Visse came to the mountain during finals week. “This is amazing, I wasn’t expecting this at all,” Visse said.
With no tests Monday, Visse said she needed to de-stress somehow. “It was worth to come out and relax. The powder is perfect,” Visse said.
With Spring break around the corner, Hoodoo is welcoming a crowd of riders to come.
