Bend PD release more Columbia Bank burglary photos

KTVZ

Bend police on Monday released four more security camera photos in hopes of finding a man who smashed his way into the Columbia Bank on Northeast Third Street the evening of March 16 and left a short time later, apparently without taking or damaging anything inside.

Two of the photos show the suspect as he walked through the bank, while two others show the apparent suspect vehicle, though only partially in one and through the bank’s glass doors in the other.

The man wearing a bandana smashed the glass front door of Columbia Bank in northeast Bend around the evening of Wednesday, March 16 and left a short time later, apparently not taking anything during his visit.

Police responded around 7:30 p.m. to Columbia Bank at 1701 NE Third Street on the reported break-in, said Lt. Jason Maniscalco. Two citizens reported seeing the man enter the bank through the broken window.

As officers arrived, they were told a custodian had called from inside the bank to report the burglary, Maniscalco said, adding that the burglar left without making contact with the custodian.

“It doesn’t appear the suspect stole or damaged anything inside the business,” the lieutenant said in a news release.

Police earlier released two surveillance camera photos of the burglar, who was described as a younger white male with a bandana-style mask, dark-colored pants, a dark sweatshirt and dark hair.

Maniscalco said the man left the scene in an older Toyota Tacoma or similar pickup, with a lighter-color body and a dark canopy. Officers checked the area but didn’t find him.

Anyone with information that might help in locating the suspect was asked to contact Bend police at 541-693-6911.

The suspect likely would face second-degree charges of burglary and criminal mischief, Maniscalco said.

Officers said it appeared the break-in was unrelated to the Feb. 29 holdup of the same bank branch, in which a gunman wearing a ski mask threatened bank workers with a handgun and got away with an undisclosed amount of cash. That suspect also has so far eluded capture.
