KTVZ

The Bend Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution on Saturday honored 7th- and 8th-grade winners of the DAR American History Essay Contest.

First-place winners were Zoe Crosson and Ellie Tomlinson and runners-up were Chloe Helikson and Rabecka Moffit. All four are students of Ms. Jennifer Laduca and Ms. Nicole Henry of Sky View Middle School.

This year’s essay topic asked students to write about a Revolutionary War era family discussing the Stamp Act and its impact on families.

Zoe Crosson is also the Oregon DAR state first place winner and Northwest Division winner, competing against authors across seven states.

The DAR chapter also honored NewsChannel 21’s Wanda Moore and Bob Shaw with Local Media Awards — Moore for her reports on the World War II veterans’ “Honor Flight” to Washington, D.C., and Shaw for hosting the “Wreaths Across America” ceremony.
