Chow down: Semi spills 48,000 pounds of dog food, blocks Hwy. 97

KTVZ

Highway 97 near Crescent in Klamath County was closed or restricted for several hours Sunday after a semi-truck jackknifed and spilled much of its load of 48,000 pounds of dog food, officials said.

The crash was reported by ODOT around 4:20 p.m., as the agency urged drivers to delay their trip or make alternate plans.

A detour was established on the “Crescent Cut-off” to state Highway 58, until one lane reopened using flaggers in alternate directions.

There were no details as to any injuries, but photos from the scene indicated the semi was sideways on the highway. Boxes and bags of dog food were strewn beside the road, but it appeared few if any had broken and spilled the food inside.
